Constructed of, this M1917A1 retains the majority of exterior finish showing signs of hard use on the top.To the front and the side there appears to have been unit painted marks now covered by paint Inside, the leather liner remains intact though does show significant wear . Though the leather is dry in the sweat stained areas, the remaining areas are quite supple. The helmet maker/supplier is “D” for McCord featuring their cork/paint exterior. The chinstrap features a service number or laundry number “G6792”.
Introduced in 1936 and widely used until 1941 the M1917A1 was based off of the US M1917 helmet from the First World War. Improvements made to the helmet included a webbed chinstrap and redesigned liner.
